Among a multitude of nicknames, Marianne Voss has been dubbed the Queen of Cycling. She proved why this name is fitting, once more, at the 2013 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Louisville, Kentucky. The 25-year-old secured her firth successive championship and the sixth of her career. Her winning time of 43 minutes was 1:34 minutes faster than runner up Kate Compton (USA).

The Netherlands native, Vos took an early lead and never looked back. Getting clear during the first lap on a snowy, muddy Louisville course, the rest of the field was chasing Vos for the entire race. America's Kate Compton was the only one who could come close, but in the end, her efforts were not enough. Lucie Chainel-Lefevre of France completed the podium with her third place finish.

In a 6-lap race, Vos led from the beginning and couldn't be caught, further cementing her position as perhaps one of the best ever in her sport. As expected, the race came down to a showdown between Vos and Compton, pitting two of the sport's best against one another. Vos came away with the rainbow jersey for yet another year as the reigning World Champion.

"The pressure every year gets higher because everybody expects me to win," Vos stated. "I was nervous at the start." Vos also gave praise to the US fans. "The Americans were really cool," she said. "They cheered for me too."

Compton, the second place finisher had plenty of compliments for the World Champion herself. "I'm not disappointed at all," she said. "Marianne… she's fast and so good at this. If I'm going to get second to anybody Marianne is a good person to get second to. I'm actually really happy."
